Centerville-Washington History Community Support Grant Recipient

Congratulations to Centerville-Washington History for receiving a $2,500 Community Support Grant from The Centerville-Washington Foundation! The grant was awarded in April 2020 for the Museum Lighting Project.

The mission of Centerville-Washington History is "to connect the community to its heritage by collecting, preserving, interpreting, and promoting the history of our local area." If you are able to visit one of the museums, you will be able to see books, pictures, paintings, furniture, antiques, etc. that have been collected and preserved throughout the years.

Centerville-Washington History has a Board of Trustees as well as a staff of five people. The staff is comprised of: Current Director - Cheryl Meyer, Administrative Asst. - Karen King, Finance Manager - Peggy Brooker, Education Coordinator - Melissa Wagner and curator - Joellen Ulliman. The Centerville-Washington History office is located at 89 W. Franklin St. in Centerville, Ohio.

Centerville-Washington History operates two museums and a research center. The Asahel Museum and The Walton House and Nutt Cottage Research Center are OPEN to the public with free admission. These are open Tues.-Fri. from 12:00-4:00p.m. **Note: The Nutt Cottage is by appointment only during these same days and times.**

Did you know that Dr. John Hole was the earliest settler in Washington Township or that Centerville was a town in 1830 but later became incorporated as a city in 1968? Did you also know that Centerville, Ohio is home to Ohio's largest collection of early stone buildings? If not, you might to take a Historical Walking Tour offered by Centerville-Washington History. ($8.00 / person or $5.00 for a CWH Member) The walking tour includes visits to Centerville's famous stone houses and one of the historic cemeteries as well as a visit to the museums. "Hunting For History" Tours are family-friendly and are available by contacting the CWH office.

Centerville-Washington History has a scholarship fund which gives $1,000 to a local high school senior planning to study history. There are also educational programs provided by Centerville-Washington History via on-site tours and programs taken into individual classes each year.
